[Here Luceti, have another New Feather. A young man with silver wings, wearing a strange mask and with only the thin pants of the newcomers to protect him from the world is currently just waking up in the forest not too far from the village. If you could see his face you'd see just how groggy and confused he is right now. He flinches a little as he realises there's a couple of new additions to his body upon coming to... wherever he is right now, and he reaches behind him to feel... feathers? Wings?

Thankfully it isn't long before he realises his clothes are piled up beside him, along with a book. Gin knows it's dangerous to be so exposed and doesn't hesitate to put on those clothes, strangely altered to accommodate those small wings on his back. Who did this to him? Where was he? He was certain by now this wasn't the forest of the Mountain God, unless he was trying to play some kind of trick on him.

Now for that book... Gin picks it up, taking a seat on the forest floor where he appeared and taking a moment to flick through the pages. The book was full of messages and pictures, presumably the ones who were trying to communicate. Some of the images moved as well and there were voices... the book was speaking to him.]

[After taking some time to try to get to know this odd journal and how it might work, Gin ends up trying to speak to the book himself.]

Hello? Can anyone hear me?

We get 'em every few months or so. There's a call for fighters... though even if you can't fight, participation isn't really negotiable. They drag us out of the enclosure, usually to deal with the Third Party.

[That... seems to come as a shock to Gin.]

I can't. If they were expecting me to get involved in something like that then they chose the wrong person. I can't be of any use to them.

[His voice tightens briefly before he eases out a sigh] Something about quantity over quality. If your body can handle a Shift, they want you out there, even if you can't fight.

Oh, I see. I know that's a different planet. I just didn't know it had a Spirit World. Does that mean you know Masaomi?

And... huh. I know lots of spirits. I met Tui and La, who're the ocean and moon spirits... Hei Bai, who protected the forest. There was Wan Shi Ton, who looked like an owl and had foxes working for him 'cuz he ran a library that was buried in the desert. There was the Painted Lady but that was my friend. And also there's Koh the Face Stealer. He's... he's just scary.

You will? Aren't you cold?

There's also the Filial spirits that are connected to the different elements. If you make a pact with them, they'll teach you how to use their magic.

[It rarely happened? That gave her a few things to wonder about. Someone who was just antisocial wouldn't sound like that, right?

She would have to ask him about that later.]

I don't know if I'd go that far, but it does make things easier. If you ask me, it's the very least they could do after taking all of us here and putting these wings on us!

It's not really a world of its own... well not that we can see at least. Sometimes they walk with humans or appear before them. Those that see them either feel lucky or afraid. I can't say I've ever met anyone called Masaomi though. Then again, I haven't met all that many people...

[Gin listens as Aang talks about these spirits of his. He can't say he's heard of any of them though there are obvious parallels... he knew foxes for one thing.]

I wonder just how many spirits are out there across different worlds. I know foxes, but I haven't heard of the rest.

I'll be okay. I'll find warm clothes.

[He gives a nod at that.]

I've only lived with spirits and I rarely meet humans. I'm not really sure what else is out there.

[It might be nice to be able to talk to others without fearing his own demise. He'd have to be careful though. Sometimes appearances could be deceiving.]

What exactly are you?

[Gin's still for a moment, thinking that over. There were spirits here? Maybe he should get to know them then. He was more used to their company than that of humans after all. The prospect of being able to use magic seemed interesting to him as well. Perhaps if he got good enough... he might even be able to reverse the negative effects of the spell cast on him.]

How would I go about making a pact with these spirits?

Are the wings really that bad? They'll take some getting used to, but they could be fun.

Unless... you can't fly with them.

[He hasn't actually tried yet of course. If that was the case then they weren't really anything more than useless ornaments.]

A Shift?

[He'd lived an isolated life, trying to avoid anything that would break him apart. He hadn't put his body through much at all when he thought about it.]

Not everyone can. [Him for example.] I'm not sure everyone would either. I haven't met many humans, but they can't all be good, right?

[And Sanji can't promise him a shift wouldn't come with detrimental effects. He still remembers the time when one rendered him blind on the battlefield.]

Yeah, a Shift. Kinda hard for me to explain, so you might be better off asking someone else. [Still, he gives it a shot]

Here, let me give you an example. In this village we get Shifts a lot. Sometimes we'll start randomly teleporting, or we'll think something is true when it's not... like falling in love with someone you've never met before. Or swearing up and down you're a shitty scientist when before you were a seamstress.

It's always some type of abrupt change, and it can simple or complicated.

[P-pfffft.] Bingo, you got it in one guess. Not bad.

Personally, I've never undergone one. I suppose I've been lucky... but if you ask around, you'll probably meet someone who has.
